Indigenous Sign Language Book Produced
Last week, Sue Frank from Deaf Services' Indigenous Communication Program met with Louise Hunter, State Library of Queensland's Indigenous Services Lead along with Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC) staff in Cairns.
Through the Federal Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy, Sue was able to develop the first introduction to Sign Language book created by Deaf Indigenous people. The book will be distributed to over 20 IKCs across Cape York, and aims to assist Deaf Indigenous children and their families living in remote communities to develop language and life skills, while helping to maintain connection to country and culture.
