It's Mental Health Week in Queensland from 6-14 October, an annual event aimed at raising awareness for postivie mental health and wellbeing across the state.
Jennifer and Danielle from Deafness and Mental Health Statewide Consultation and Liason Service joined Nicole from Child and Youth Mental Health Service - Children's Health Queensland in the Brisbane Deaf Services' office today. They shared information with staff about available services and program for deaf community members.
Deafness and Mental Health Statewide Consultation Service
The Deafness and Mental Health Statewide Consultation Service strives to promote appropriate and accessible mental health care for Deaf and hard of hearing people throughout Queensland.
This is done through:
- providing education and training
- supporting mental health clinical staff and other service providers
- support for Deaf and hard of hearing mental health consumers
- the development of prevention strategies
- providing consultation services.

Child and Youth Mental Health Service - Children's Health Queensland
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) at Children’s Health Queensland have funded the Deafness Mental Health program until June 2019.
This program works with organisations who support infants, children, young people and their families who are deaf or hard of hearing to promote their mental health and address any existing mental health problems they are expriencing.
