Pat’s Story – International Day of People with Disability

Pat is from Western Sydney and is deafblind with tunnel vision. Our team in NSW works with Pat to participate in everyday activities.

Pat also travelled to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains with one of our Support Workers for a bushwalk near the Three Sisters. He found this valuable to discover and learn something new.

“I like to use support services from Deaf Services and the Deaf Society,” Pat told us. “When I go somewhere new like a museum, bushwalk or even social chats at cafes, they keep me safe, well-supported and valued.”

Pat's Support Worker is referred to as a communication guide – someone with additional skills required to work with people with deafblindness. We are proud to offer this service among a range of support and communication options to support them to achieve their full potential and live the life they choose.

We are proud to support International Day of People with Disability #IDPwD which is held on 3 December each year, and aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.
