Deaf Services offers a range of Auslan classes aimed at introducing basic Auslan conversational skills to participants.
Community Auslan Introduction is designed for people with no previous language skill or knowledge of Auslan. You will learn basic skills to communicate with Deaf people in Auslan on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language. The community courses are easy, fun, informal and relaxed.
Community Auslan I is designed to build on the skills and knowledge learnt in the Introduction course. This course has a pre-requisite of completion of Auslan Introduction or prior Auslan experience. You will learn more about grammatical structure and the culture of the Deaf community.
Due to the current situation we are facing with regards to the Coronavirus and adhering to the Australian Government's social distancing rules, we will not be able to offer face to face classes at all our usual locations however some face to face classes will be offered in specific locations. Where face to face classes are being offered and ensuring we adhere to the social distancing regulations registrations will be limited. We are very excited to be offering our Community Auslan Introduction classes for Term 4 online.
Our virtual classes are delivered via Zoom. In order to attend the virtual classes, you require:
- a computer/laptop
- an inbuilt camera or webcam
- have reliable internet connection.
The method we are using to deliver our classes comprises of watching a 1 hour pre-class weekly video lesson, as well as attending a 1 hour virtual class with your teacher and fellow participants. Check out our classes below for timeslots we have available.
